Self Written Brief

This was a three week self written brief. Our task was to create a brief for ourselves along the theme of relationships. I set myself the task to create album artwork. I based the artwork on peoples favourite song or a song that the person had a emotional connection to, so I could emphasise the relationship between music and emotions. I looked at imagery and colour as well as layout. I conducted a small survey to get information and insight on their favourite song and emotions and feelings they felt for this song, I then chose two of them to develop through; research, experimentation, illustration, digitalisation, screen printing onto A3.

Through my digital development I began to look at the back of the album and decided to not include the illustrations on the back. I chose the size of the piece through my research and it is the size of a 7 inch single record. Above are my screen prints of the back of the album and were part of my experimentation through offset screen printing. I felt these designs came out really well and had more depth than the perfectly alined pieces.

I worked through the surveys and the peoples wants and needs as if I was working for a client. This still allowed me to experiment with a range of things, including colours which I looked at. The subject wanted a colour which represented the urgency of the lyrics yet also the feeling she got in her head. I was able to practice with both colours until we decided that the red better suited her relationship with the song.
